Wet weekend in Prague

We went for the competition in Praha Kyje this weekend. On Friday people were wondering if the competition will even take place, since it was raining heavily and the field was pretty wet and muddy after the seminar that took place there. Yet on Friday evening the sun started shining again, so off we went.

It started raining just after first coursewalking.

On Saturday we decided for a little experiment. Since Brava is now having a break from competing :), I was running with Evo and Roman with Vigo. My goal for this competition was to hold his startlines and contacts and it worked pretty well. As the surface was really muddy after a while, both of us had problems running, whereas our dogs were just fine :). Due to that we were both eliminated in first two runs - I really pity the MA1 run, which was beautiful until I got disqualified at the last but one obstacle just because I couldn't get there in time :). Roman's last run was really nice. I was also disqualified in last run with Evo, but it was his fault this time :). He doesn't much like running in the rain :).

Anyway, it was quite a good day, even with the rain.

But it was still raining during the night and in the next morning and we realised that we won't be able to compete that day:

Instead of two courses, it was possible to build only one, because part of the terrain was already under water:

The water was rising every minute. When we arrived, we could still enter the training area without problems. One hour later it was like that:

The organizers finally decided to just allow one run for the Championships of Toy and Companion Dogs and cancel the other runs.

Initially we planned to stay until Monday and visit Praha, so we just started earlier with the sight-seeing. It was something new :D. We travel a lot with our dogs, but usually we just see the stadium or some playing field and not much more, so we decided at least this time we can see something. We visited the Museum of Sex Machines which was really interesting :) then we went for a nice long walk in the Stromovka park. It was great - as the weather was still not nice (though it was not raining for a moment!) the park was almost empty. There are areas where you can let dogs off leash. Some lawns were under water and the dogs enjoyed running after ball a lot, even though they were soaking wet after a while. Then we could leave them in car again (with heat on as it was cold and they were wet) and go for more sight-seeing. We visited gallery of Old Masters in the Sternberg Palace - it is a great collection including Rembrandt, both Breughels, some sketches of Durer and many other interesting paintings. The collection entitled "Baroqe in Bohemia" was also quite interesting, even though Baroque is not my favourite style.

All in all we had quite nice day, but we could see that the danger of flood is rising every hour and Vltava was looking quite threatening. Therefore we decided to go home in the evening, instead of waiting till Monday.

On the way to our hotel we went to see the training area. By then it was completely flooded, even the club house, as well as couple of houses on the road leading to it :(.

We got home without problems. I hope all our friends in Praha are safe and they can manage the flood without lots of destruction...

Olga biegała z Evo, a Romek z Vigo.
